I haven't posted a collection in a bit, but I've recently started scanning in my collection of vintage cookbooks and thought you might enjoy seeing a few images from them. I've been collecting vintage cookbooks since I was in college. They're usually only a couple of dollars a piece, so they're a cheap way to infuse a little vintage into your cookbook shelf. The only unfortunate thing for me is that a lot of vintage cookbooks are pretty scant when it comes to vegetarian recipes, so I try to buy ones that have plenty of good baking and non-meat recipes. One of the biggest reasons I love vintage cookbooks so much is that they often have some of the most whimsical, sweet illustrations. The one below, in particular, comes from a series of cookbooks that covered world cuisine. I have a few others from the series, but the French one is my favourite. The Parisian-themed illustrations are just so darn cute!
Please note that I am posting these images purely for non-profit educational/historical purposes. :) Feel free to click on the images to enlarge them. Enjoy!

1950s/60s food photography always brings to mind the Lileks Gallery of Regrettable Food... ;)

I just love all of the colours and details going on in this image.
I hope you enjoyed these. Have a wonderful day!

I adore/collect vintage cookbooks & cooking pamphlets too, I especially like the old photographs of odd recipes (like jello molds). The ingredients some of the recipes used to call for are pretty scary like lard, MSG and canned shrimp, ew.
ReplyDeleteThat's so cute! I have a very similar cookbook except, instead of French cooking, it features Scandinavian recipes :)
ReplyDeleteKate, I have the Scandinavian one, too!
ReplyDeleteHow darling is that cookbook!? Love!
